Bonny Bonaparte has left Spyro Gyra for health related reasons. You may remember that Bonny missed about a month earlier this year while Will Kennedy and (mostly) Josh Dion filled in for him.

What happened was a stroke, from which Bonny has not yet fully recovered. Further, his doctor has advised him that the travel, that is a necessary part of being in this band, poses a threat to his continued health and recovery.

Bonny Bonaparte (Drums) was born and raised on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. His early shows with popular local groups such as “The Trinidad Troubadours” followed by tours in the U.S., Canada, South America, The Virgin Islands, and most of the Caribbean gave Bonny the opportunity to perform with such diverse artists as James Brown, The Bee Gees, Natalie Cole, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Commodores, The Jackson 5, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, The Manhattans, Millie Jackson, B.T. Express, and many others.

After returning home, Bonny played with Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Yellowman, and recorded with Valentine, The Mighty Sparrow, Crazy, Calypso Rose, Tony Ricardo, and his mentor Earl Rodney and Friends.

Bonny currently resides in Las Vegas, where he’s performed with Clint Holmes, Dennis Miller, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Jeffrey Osborne, David Brenner, Soul Desire, Paul Christopher, Tony Tillman, and many others. Bonny has toured and recorded with Bruce Hornsby for several years, and was touring and recording with Spyro Gyra. Bonny is listed as one of the “Prominent & Influential R&B drummers of the 1990′s” in “The Ten Commandments of R&B Drumming” (Zoro).

We pray for a full recovery for Bonny B.

Chris Botti returns to the Blue Note for his highly-anticipated annual three week run through Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Since the 2004 release of his critically acclaimed CD When I Fall In Love, Chris Botti (pronounced boat-tee) has become the largest-selling American jazz instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music, and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum, and Grammy Awards.

Over the past three decades, Botti has recorded and performed with the best in music, including Frank Sinatra, Sting, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, and Aerosmith’s own Steven Tyler.

Hitting the road for 250 days or more per year, Botti and his incredible band have performed with many of the finest symphonies and at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including performances at the World Series and the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.

A master artist and performer, Botti, who’s sold nearly three million albums worldwide, worked closely with an unparalleled roster of the world’s greatest musicians, drawing from a wide-ranging repertoire of pop, jazz, and classical music to create a series of aesthetically rewarding performances and two night’s worth of unforgettable concert experiences. Chris Botti In Boston, an extraordinarily luxurious film of the two-night event, captures and accentuates the warmth, excitement, chemistry and spontaneity of the shows.
