CreeksideBluesJazzFestival

The Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival is a three day cultural celebration featuring hundreds of musicians, delicious cuisine, artisans from the region, amusement rides and engaging family activities. The event started fifteen years ago as a one day dedication of Gahanna’s new Creekside Park area and the beginning of Olde Gahanna’s revitalization. The Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival has experienced unprecedented growth in attendance and has truly become more than the celebration of music, food and fun; it has become a premiere family summer event.

Artists will be announced on their website. Last year Cindy Bradley with the Urban Jazz Coalition performed on this event.

TIZER featuring Lao Tizer, Karen Briggs and Chieli Minucci

Driven by an explosive mix of jazz, rock, classical, jam band influences and Afro Cuban and world rhythms, Downbeat — the first studio album by TIZER, a multi-cultural band led by Boulder, CO native, keyboardist/composer Lao Tizer — throws down a high powered collection of 12 brand-new originals on this scintillating release of fresh instrumental music from one of today’s rising stars of the world-fusion genre. Establishing themselves in the contemporary jazz world over the past few years, TIZER has spurred comparisons of a modern twist to the 70s and early 80s heyday of jazz fusion, when trailblazing ensembles like Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report set the aesthetic standard.

Truly embodying the title and spirit of his 2007 solo album Diversify, Lao assembled a group of veteran world-class musicians to create a dynamic rich with new melodic, harmonic and improvisational possibilities. Co-produced by Lao and guitarist Jeff Kollman, the eclectic set includes five original compositions by Lao and numerous collaborations with his cohorts, including the first single “World In Rhythm,” co-written with Emmy winner and Grammy nominated guitarist Chieli Minucci, best known as founder and leader of Special EFX.

Over the past few years, TIZER—a 2011 nominee for “Jazz Group of the Year”–has taken their multi-faceted world fusion vibe around the globe, galvanizing thousands at events including the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, the Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg, the Dubai Jazz Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival and the Festival International Providencia Jazz in Santiago, Chile. In addition to their usual whirlwind of U.S. dates, their 2012 schedule in support of Downbeat includes the Jarasum International Jazz Festival in South Korea and four shows in Russia. While Lao was a “Best New Jazz Artist” nominee in 2002 and Diversify spent many weeks on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart, TIZER has a multi-genre, multi-national appeal that expands beyond just jazz enthusiasts. Their diverse resume includes performance slots alongside Zappa Plays Zappa, Jethro Tull, Isaac Hayes, Al Jarreau, Spyro Gyra, George Benson, Soulive, Babyface, Bruce Hornsby and Robin Thicke.

Those who haven’t yet experienced TIZER’s intensity, expansive arrangements and exciting soloing in concert got the next best thing with the group’s 2010 debut release TIZER Live, which captured the vibrant interaction of what Lao calls “the ultimate cultural and musical melting pot”; Italian-American New Yorker Minucci, African American violin great Karen Briggs and Cuban born drummer/percussionist Raul Pineda, in addition to Kollman, Steve Nieves (sax/vocals/percussion) and Lao himself, who grew up in Boulder, Colorado. Bassist Rufus Philpot, who joined TIZER after that recording, hails from London. The concert recording at the world renowned Musicians Institute in Hollywood was TIZER’s very first live performance as a group; it included fresh interpretations of seven songs from Lao’s earlier recordings, including Diversify and Golden Soul (2001).

Downbeat marks the first time that Lao has co-produced one of his albums. Loving the big sound of the band and all the intricacies it has in the live setting inspired his simple concept when it came time to write and record the album. “Producing and mixing with Jeff, my goal was to give listeners a taste of the energy TIZER creates in the live setting, so most of the recording was done live in the studio,” he says. “While no solo on disc can capture what happens onstage, we wanted Downbeat to have the same blend and balance via strong, detailed arrangements and studio production. It all starts with a completely live rhythm section—drums, bass, percussion, keys—and that translates to an organic foundation to build from.”

Jazz on the River is a great way to spend the weekend. This Festival is also often called the Russian River Jazz Festival because earlier in the year the Russian River Blues festival takes place in the same area at Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville. The setting couldn’t be better. Huge redwood trees surround you with the hot sun shining through. Everyone hangs out on lawn chairs and just kicks back while the music plays. If you get too hot, just jump in the warm and inviting Russian River for a dip. Combined both festivals are since 2011 the Russian River Blues And Jazz Festival.

Announced smooth jazz artists are George Benson, The Dream Tour with Brian Culbertson & David Sanborn.

Back by popular demand, Lee Ritenour launches the 3rd Annual Yamaha 6 String Theory Guitar Competition on Jan. 21, 2012, in partnership with Yamaha, Berklee College of Music, Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation and the National Guitar Workshop. 2012 marks the expansion of the competition to include the Inaugural Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin Rhythm Section Competition.

Oscar® award winning and 2012 Grammy® nominated, Dave Grusin, is head of the Advisory Board for the Rhythm Section competition. Adding 3 new instruments to the competition: Piano, Bass and Drums, the contest grows to reach thousands of aspiring and upcoming new musicians from around the world. The contest kicks off January 21, 2012 and ends May 1, 2012.

The competition is the inspiration of legendary Grammy® award winning guitarist/composer and producer, Lee Ritenour, who debuted the International competition in 2010 with the release of his all-star guitar CD, 6 String Theory. The CD has been named Guitar International’s “Best Album of the Year,” Jazziz’ “Publisher’s Album of the Year” – and culminated in Ritenour receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from Guitar Player Magazine.

The CD features 20 world-class guitarists including George Benson, BB King, Slash, Vince Gill, Robert Cray, and the winner of the 2010 competition Shon Boublil. Lee Ritenour’s 2012 album, tentatively titled “Rhythm Sessions” will feature a ‘who’s who’ of all-star rhythm players, as well as a track with the winners of the 2012 rhythm section competition.

The contest continued to flourish in 2011 garnering hundreds of applicants from over 45 countries and giving 36 semifinalists the opportunity to compete and study at the world-renowned National Guitar Workshop. The 6 finalists attended the esteemed Crown of the Continents Guitar Workshop and Festival where the Final Competition took place. Our 2011 winner, David Browne Murray, is a talented acoustic guitarist from Ireland.

With the success of the previous two competitions, it was a natural progression to expand the contest to include piano, bass and drums as well as guitar. Guitar Entries will be accepted in the genres of Rock, Blues, Jazz/Fusion, Acoustic, Classical/Flamenco or Country. Rhythm Section Entries will be accepted in the genres of Jazz, Fusion, Rock, Blues or Contemporary.

Competitors are required to send an online video submission at www.sixstringtheory.com. Prizes for the Guitar Competition include Berklee College of Music Scholarships, professional recording and mentoring opportunities, a weeklong stay at the four-star Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, MT for a party of two ($8,000 value), a potential Concord Records recording contract, 36 National Guitar Workshop scholarships, 6 Crown of the Continent Scholarships, Cash, Yamaha Guitars & endorsements as well as other prizes from Monster, D’Addario Strings, and others.

There is a special cash prize of $2,500 awarded to the Classical Guitar Finalist (courtesy of sponsor James Stroud), as well as $500 cash prize to each of the 6 Guitar Finalists. Rhythm Section prizes include Berklee College of Music Scholarships, Yamaha instruments; professional mentoring; an opportunity to record on Lee Ritenour’s forthcoming album with Concord Music Group scheduled for release May 2012; an opportunity to perform at the esteemed Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop and Festival in Montana Aug. 26-Sept. 2, 2012 and other prizes from Monster. Total value of 4 prize packages over $600,000.

CD Baby, the largest digital distributor of independent music in the world, is proud to launch its new MusicStore for Facebook. This new, customizable store is the easiest way for musicians to sell downloads and CDs directly to fans on Facebook. With just a few clicks, the MusicStore integrates right into an artist’s Facebook Band Page, allowing fans to listen to, purchase, and share their music. CD Baby then handles the rest automatically, including the transaction processing, music delivery, customer service, and artist payout.

For CD Baby artists, the MusicStore App is free and requires no additional uploading, as song files, metadata, and bio information are already stored in CD Baby’s database. The MusicStore for Facebook shows fans all the relevant artist and product info. It also allows artists to choose between offering 30-second sample clips or full song streams when people click to hear the music before purchasing.

“I’m extremely proud of this release, which solves the problem of selling your music on Facebook,” says CD Baby president Brian Felsen. “Because we have all necessary artist content and information in our database, our new MusicStore for Facebook literally takes just 5 minutes to set up. It’s beautiful, seamless, and integrated. And I’m excited that artists are responding: in the first five days since our “soft” launch, without any promotion whatsoever, we’ve already deployed over 1,500 artist stores! It’s direct to fan, and CD Baby handles all the logistics: the credit card processing, the delivery of downloaded MP3s, the warehousing and shipping of CDs, the customer service, and the accounting – so artists can focus on what matters: writing, recording, and performing.”

The MusicStore for Facebook is FREE for existing CD Baby members. Artists can set up the MusicStore and start selling (and sharing) their music immediately on Facebook, simply by logging into their member accounts at http://members.cdbaby.com.

New artists interested in selling their music directly to their fans on Facebook can sign up an album on CD Baby for just $39, or a single for $9.95, and get the free MusicStore for Facebook at: http://members.cdbaby.com/sell-music-on-facebook.aspx
