The keyboard pioneer reportedly passed away last night at St. John’s Hospital in Los Angeles. George Duke has died aged 67, after battling and being treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia. This news comes after a difficult period for the acclaimed keyboardist and composer whose wife Corine passed away just over a year ago. Duke’s record label Concord-Telarc have confirmed he died on 5 August in Los Angeles, his passing coming after he had just launched his latest album, Dreamweaver, which he’d dedicated to his wife’s memory.
The musician, singer, producer and composer leaves behind a stunning legacy that includes collaborations with the likes of Frank Zappa and albums such as the Jean-Luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio. Duke’s music has been sampled by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock and Madlib.
Duke had recently returned to form in the studio and remained a hugely popular live draw at festivals and jazz clubs around the world. He will be sorely missed by his legions of fans from both R&B/soul and jazz-fusion worlds.
Fred’s role as AWB’s up-front soloist, supporting keyboardist and horn arranger has seen him touring clubs, theatres and festivals all over the world. This heavy workload permitting, Fred still found time for jamming, guesting or leading groups of fellow top drawer musicians in the best jazz and soul clubs in NYC, Atlanta (where he now resides) and, even, London where Fred’s very occasional British ‘pick up’ bands attracted players of the quality of Jason Rebello, Jim Mullen and Ash Soan, to name but a few.
In 2004, Fred was asked to take over the saxophone duties with vocalist Michael McDonald on the “Rock & Soul Revue” Tour. The vocal legend was so pleased with Freddy’s work that he asked him to play on his Motown II collection. Always a capable writer – Fred’s tunes have been recorded by not only AWB but also the likes of Grover Washington Jr and Marion Meadows.
Mo was keyboardist and musical director with saxophonist Najee and vocalists Philip Bailey, Patti Austin and Jon Lucien. In 1993, he joined the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire, becoming the band’s musical director a year later. Mo then elevated to another echelon when he was featured playing keyboards, trumpet, and guitar with Janet Jackson’s 2001 “All For You” tour. As a principal member of the group Devoted Spirits, he played keyboards for Jimi Hendrix’s 60th Birthday Celebration and the “Power of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix” tour. In 2009, as keyboardist for Michael Jackson’s highly anticipated “This Is It” tour, he performed at the pop legend’s memorial concert in Los Angeles. Along with the rest of the This Is It band, Mo is immortalized in the eponymously titled film, the best-selling musical.

Peter Muller is currently in the studio to work on his new CD “No Mind”. You can support the progress of the production by joining his Indiegogo campaign here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/.
Peter comments: “It’s not about making a donation without any output, you get something in return! And this is my new album “No Mind”, which will be released in early 2014.
You can preorder it in any form (download or physical CD) and you can also purchase some interesting perks.
As I run my own studio, I do not have to hire an audio engineer or a location for recording, which is a big advantage, but there are other costs I can’t avoid like paying out the awesome musicians, covering travel costs, artwork, photo shooting, printing of CD’s, marketing etc…
Your preorders will be used to organize all this and help me to continue the production process without too many interruptions. I will give all supporters a personal monthly update by e-mail about the progress of the production.
Thank you very much for your support!! And please spread the word about my Indiegogo campaign.”

Grammy winning bassist Marcus Miller was injured when his tour bus overturned in Switzerland Sunday (November 25). According to Billboard, the German-registered private bus tipped over as it drove into a bend on the A2 highway in central Switzerland, killing the driver. The bus was carrying 13 people – two drivers and 11 members of the Marcus Miller Band, including Miller. The band had finished up a show in Monaco, Monte Carlo and were on their way to their next gig in Hengelo, Netherlands when the accident occurred. Marcus was released from the hospital, but several of his bandmates and crew members were being kept overnight for observation.
Marcus comments on his Facebook page: “Thanks to everyone who has called, texted, posted messages, sent prayers and is keeping Marcus and the band and crew in your thoughts. I wish I had the time to respond to each of you individually…for now, please understand that things are a little hectic, and know that the band and crew are all okay. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bus driver and his family. I’ll post again tomorrow if there are any updates. Bibi…signing off for the night.”
