The Seabreeze Jazz Festival Dinner Cruise continues to be one of our most popular events ever — setting sail aboard the dinner and entertainment yacht The Lady Anderson. Docked behind the Captain Anderson Restaurant on Grand Lagoon, The Lady Anderson features two climate controlled dining salons, a full service galley, full service bar, and exceptional on-board staff with a performance stage on the boat’s main level in air-conditioned comfort. The SMOOTH JAZZ DINNER CRUISE is the perfect way to kick off the weekend of smooth jazz in style.

The Smooth Jazz Dinner Cruise is a three-hour cruise of breathtaking St. Andrews Bay as dolphins play and the setting sun sparkles off the water. Dinner will be a selection of hot entrees (Seafood, Carved Beef and Pasta Dishes), Vegetables, Salad, Fruit, Rolls with Butter and Dessert plus Coffee and Tea.  A Cash Bar will be available.

Due to the extreme response and demand from festival fans, Brian Culbertson has agreed to return as our Dinner Cruise Featured Artist for 2013. Demand was overwhelming for dinner cruise tickets to see Brian Culbertson, so we had to bring him back!

Then, get ready for some high-energy smooth jazz right from your dining table. A Meet and Greet and CD Signing to follow dinner and the show. The boat will return to the dock promptly at 10pm. This event will jumpstart the “ultimate weekend in smooth jazz” with a once-in-a-lifetime evening of great dining, great scenery, and live smooth jazz.

NapaValley

When multitalented musician Brian Culbertson announced the first Napa Valley Jazz Getaway last New Year’s day, he didn’t imagine that the 5-day celebration of music and wine in the Golden State’s idyllic wine country would sell out in just one week, but that is exactly what happened.  The chart-topper and high-energy performer will again top the marquee of the 2013 edition slated for June 5-9 that adds numerous events to the schedule and luster to the list of performers in the form of Grammy winners Take 6, Ray Parker Jr., Norman Brown and Kirk Whalum united with Rick Braun as BWB, seminal funk outfit Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, saxophonists Eric Darius and Michael Lington, guitarist Nick Colionne, party band DW3 and special guest comedian Sinbad.  Ticket packages are currently on sale and are being made available in four phases with priority given to returning guests.

In June, over 1,200 attendees will again converge upon Napa Valley from all over the nation to experience this extraordinary opportunity for jazz and wine enthusiasts to share their common passions with their favorite musicians.  Festival goers will enjoy headline concerts at the Napa Valley Opera House and Lincoln Theater while more intimate shows will be held at several wineries including Silver Oak and Chimney Rock.  VIPs will be treated to a solo piano performance by Culbertson staged in the wine cave at Miner Family Winery, which was one of the most buzzed about shows this year.  Throughout the festival, the backstage divide is removed allowing fans to interact freely with the musicians while dining, during wine receptions and tastings at one of the many winery partners, at autograph sessions, a golf tournament at Silverado Resort & Spa, and casual evening hangs at the Westin Verasa Napa for the late night crowd.  A silent auction will be held in support of music education to benefit The GRAMMY Foundation with the hopes of far surpassing this year’s impressive haul of over $31,000.

“Wine and jazz have always been a perfect fit so to be able to share those two passions of mine with people who share similar tastes is truly a gift.  Our amazing lineup for 2013 is very exciting and we’ve partnered with some of the finest wineries and restaurants in Napa to ensure that the music, food and wine will be first class all the way!  I had a feeling we were onto something when we created this one of a kind getaway and the enthusiastic response from the fans far exceeded even our own expectations.  I can’t wait to welcome everyone to Napa, share the stage with some of my good friends, and kick back with a glass of wine while taking in the beauty of the magical Napa Valley,” said Culbertson, the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway’s founder and artistic director.

Through 13 solo albums and worldwide concerts tours, Culbertson has established himself as a consistent hitmaker and a consummate entertainer, which has made him one of the most popular artists on the contemporary jazz scene.  The award-winning multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer distills a smooth, soul-splashed vintage of shimmering jazz, R&B funk grooves and mellifluous adult pop.  His latest collection, “Dreams,” was released last summer and was supported by solo and co-headline concert tours with sax legend David Sanborn.

Tickets for Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway are available as VIP (5-day pass for $1,999 per person), Gold (4-day pass for $449 per person) and Silver (2-day pass for $199 per person) packages.  For more information, including an itemized breakdown of the ticket packages, the complete schedule of events, or to watch video highlights from the 2012 Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, please visit www.NapaValleyJazzGetaway2013.com.

As the perennially sold-out sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise: The Greatest Party at Sea prepares to launch its 10th anniversary excursions in January 2013, parent company Entertainment Cruise Productions is determined to keep the party going strong by creating a West Coast outing from San Diego to exotic Mexican ports in the fall of 2013 with music hosts Brian Culbertson and Boney James.  Grammy winners David Sanborn and Marcus Miller will perform on the new program and continue to serve as the music hosts of the traditional January sailing of The Smooth Jazz Cruise in 2014 that will embark from Fort Lauderdale to Caribbean paradise as it has done for a decade.  Both 7-day cruises will be held aboard a luxurious Holland America ship and feature performances by legends, hitmakers and fan favorites.

“As we enter the second decade of The Smooth Jazz Cruise, we want to keep things fresh for our loyal family of cruisers that comes back year after year.  Thanks in part to their suggestions, we decided to spread the love by creating a sensational West Coast cruise.  With a cruise on both coasts, we feel that the hosts should reflect the different personalities of each coast.  I cannot imagine a more exciting cruise menu than Brian Culbertson and Boney James hosting a West Coast cruise and David Sanborn and Marcus Miller topping an East Coast cruise.  Brian, Boney, David and Marcus will perform on both cruises as will Jonathan Butler and Candy Dulfer.  We’re going to showcase 22 incredible headliners between the two cruises,” said Michael Lazaroff, Executive Director of St. Louis-based Entertainment Cruise Productions.

The first-ever left coast departure for The Smooth Jazz Cruise, the West Coast expedition will make its maiden voyage on the m/s Westerdam October 12-19, 2013 from San Diego and visit Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Baja Coast.  Joining Culbertson, James, Sanborn, Miller, Butler and Dulfer as performers will be Rick Braun, Norman Brown, Richard Elliot, Euge Groove, Kenny Lattimore, Earl Klugh, Oleta Adams, Brian Simpson, DW3, comedian Alonzo Bodden and special guest Tower of Power.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2014 will cruise on the m/s Eurodam from Fort Lauderdale January 11-18 with stops in Turks & Caicos, San Juan, St. Maarten and Half Moon Cay.  The parade of performers will consist of Sanborn, Miller, Culbertson, James, Butler, Dulfer, Simpson, Kirk Whalum, Peter White, Sheila E, Keb Mo, Keiko Matsui, Maysa Leak, Mindi Abair, DW3, Bodden and special guest Jeffrey Osborne.

Affectionately known amongst passengers as “The Greatest Party at Sea,” The Smooth Jazz Cruise spotlights music icons, Grammy winners and chart-topping contemporary jazz, R&B and adult contemporary artists aboard a first-class, full ship charter.  It is an extraordinary week devoted to live music with the luminous lineups presented in theatre, club and intimate piano bar settings.  The velvet rope is removed allowing cruisers to mix and mingle freely with the musicians at cocktail parties, informative seminars, autograph and Q&A sessions, theme nights, sporting contests and special land excursions while in port.  The magic of The Smooth Jazz Cruise is best understood by first-hand experience.  Nearly 60% of the passengers are repeat guests.  To reserve a cabin, call toll-free in the U.S. and Canada 888.852.9987 and 800.852.99872 from abroad.  For further information, please visit www.thesmoothjazzcruise.com.

Buoyed by the huge success of George Benson’s headlining performance in 2011, the Indy Jazz Fest has added a second outdoor roster of entertainment at Opti Park in Broad Ripple.

Indy Jazz Fest begins on Sept. 10 with five nights of indoor performances and culminates with outdoor shows on Sept. 15-16.

The final day, Sept. 16, will focus on smooth jazz, the largely instrumental genre linked to urban contemporary music, both melody- and groove-based. The schedule will be headlined by multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson and saxophonist Gerald Albright.

Culbertson’s last Indianapolis appearance was in 2009 at the Murat Theatre. Albright, who was an Indiana Black Expo performer in 1991, appeared locally most recently in 2008.

The Sept. 15 Opti-Park program includes pianist Robert Glasper Experiment, vocalist-reedman Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and the “Bring It” tour of a quartet led by bass guitarist Stanley Clarke and keyboardist George Duke.

The Sunset Series designates the festival’s indoor evening events. The 2012 schedule:

>> Sept. 10 — Aaron Diehl Quartet, group led by the 2011 Cole Porter Fellow of the American Pianists Association, Jazz Kitchen, 5377 N. College Ave.

>> Sept. 11 — “Latin Tinge,” Pavel and Direct Contact, local Latin-jazz ensemble, Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 N. Central Ave.

>> Sept. 12 — Cheryl Bentyne, solo show by member of leading vocal quartet Manhattan Transfer, Mark Winkler, Cabaret at the Columbia Club, 121 Monument Circle.

>> Sept. 13 — “Tribute to Slide Hampton,” Indy Jazz Fest band, DeHaan Center, University of Indianapolis, 1400 W. Hanna Ave.

>> Sept. 14 — Slide Hampton, trombonist, with the Steve Allee Big Band, Jazz Kitchen.

David Allee, an Indy Jazz Fest director, made the announcement at the Rhythm! Discovery Center Downtown. He told The Indianapolis Star later that Facebook surveys and sold-out shows with other presenters over the past two decades, plus the Benson show’s success, spurred the move to take a chance on a smooth-jazz day.

It’s also been successful as part of the mix at the club Allee runs, the Jazz Kitchen. “Our jazz audience here doesn’t come from a purist standpoint,” he said.

Other events related to Indy Jazz Fest are likely to be added , he said, including master classes by Hampton and Bentyne and performances at the venerable Chatterbox Jazz Club and the brand-new Indy Reads Bookstore on Mass Ave.

Opti Park, Indianapolis Art Ctr, 820 E 67th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220

Just a few blocks from the beach sits this newly renovated convention facility where many of Rehoboth’s larger events take place. The Center features a long auditorium with 6,700 sq. ft. of space and a seating capacity of 1,000 people. There is also a stage with light and sound equipment, a kitchen, and many other amenities.
