It’s summer so “Get Up And Dance!” Contemporary jazz ace trumpeter Rick Braun is leapfrogging up the Billboard chart with what bodes to be the song of the summer, a fun frolic full of horns and the snap, crackle and pop of live instrumentation. The radio single, a duet with sax star Dave Koz, is already No. 7 on the chart, the first cut from Braun’s forthcoming “Can You Feel It” album, which is due July 8. In this live performance clip, fellow sax star Euge Groove steps in for Koz on the undeniable R&B/funk instrumental.
With temperatures creeping up and a long holiday weekend on the horizon, get a feel for Braun’s sixteenth album encapsulated on this track. The energetic, honeyed horn harmonies and funk-filled grooves are performed with passion and precision by Braun and some of the finest players in contemporary jazz. “Get Up And Dance” will no doubt be another No. 1 single added to Braun’s lengthy list of chart-toppers with an array of follow-ups to come from “Can You Feel It,” Braun’s first contemporary jazz album in five years. Smooth Jazz New York is pleased to announce a star-studded line up for the All New Smooth Cruise series , now in its 17th year. The 2014 season marks a change to a new boat, The Hornblower Infinity, a luxurious 210-foot luxury yacht.
The cruises set sail Thursday evenings, June 12 through August 28. The summer’s roster includes 11 nights featuring 19 of the world’s greatest contemporary jazz acts in a superb, intimate setting with shows at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. The Smooth Cruises depart from Pier 40, located at Houston Street at the West Side Highway and cruise down the Hudson, not only offering exceptional music but breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline.
