More than 24 contemporary jazz and R&B high rollers promise to make the Las Vegas Jazz Festival a winning bet. Tickets are now on sale for the 3-day music and lifestyle event to be held at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa on September 27-29, 2013 showcasing Grammy-winning and nominated soul singers and chart-topping instrumentalists.

The opening night of the Las Vegas Jazz Festival boasts a funky Friday lineup headlined by 2013 BET Lifetime Achievement Award winner Charlie Wilson, a 6-time Grammy-nominated vocalist who won a Soul Train Icon Award in 2009. A soulful pairing comprised of saxophonist Eric Darius and platinum-selling R&B singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Lyfe Jennings will take the stage first.

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter India.Arie, veteran R&B crooner Jeffrey Osborne and saxman Euge Groove top the marquee on Saturday. Grammy-winning guitarist Norman Brown and sax powerhouse Richard Elliot join forces for a session filled with R&B grooves. Emerging sax player Dominic Amato will perform a mid-afternoon show following a trio segment featuring saxophonists Michael Lington and Jessy J with keyboardist Jonathan Fritzen. The day will begin with a hit-filled performance by saxophonist Paul Taylor, a Las Vegas native.

The closing program of the Las Vegas Jazz Festival presents two-time Grammy-nominated soul vocalist Kem followed by Grammy-winning soul singer Anthony Hamilton. Soul-jazz guitarist Jeff Golub unites with saxmen Warren Hill and Tom Braxton for what bodes to be a blues-singed set. Guitarist Nick Colionne brings Chicago-style fire and flamboyant fashion to his shows. Sax Pack Steve Cole, Jeff Kashiwa and Jackiem Joyner – always delivers a high-octane performance. The final day gets underway with Jazz in Pink, a trio of talented women consisting of keyboardist Gail Jhonson, violinist Karen Briggs and saxophonist Paula Atherton.

Tickets can be purchased for the entire Las Vegas Jazz Festival or as single-day events, but BTWconcerts.com’s Brad Laughlin, the producer and promoter of the festival, encourages guests to come for the weekend.

“Part of the magic of our jazz festivals is when guests come and totally immerse themselves in the music and lifestyle experience for the entire weekend. One of the reasons we produce our events at first-class resorts like the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa is to foster that feeling of community that takes place when concert goers spend the weekend enjoying the live music along with the plush accommodations and top-notch facilities. In addition to the extraordinary shows we go to great length to produce, our festivals are an opportunity for people to getaway, relax, socialize, network and form relationships. These aren’t just concerts; they are fun mini-vacations and our guests fly in from all over the country to join the party,” said Laughlin, whose company also produces the Arizona Jazz Festival and the San Diego Jazz Festival.

Starting at $65.00 for single-day ticket and $285.00 for a 3-day seat, tickets for the Las Vegas Jazz Festival are available online at www.lvjazzfestival.com and by phone at 602.244.8444.

JEFF GOLUB live @ Germany’s greatest Soul, Funk & Jazz-Party

Guitar | Friday, September 13, 2013 at 08:00 pm

Golub was born on April 15, 1955, in Akron, OH, where he grew up listening to a variety of R&B, funk, blues, jazz, pop, and rock and began playing the guitar as a pre-adolescent. In the ’70s, Golub moved away from Akron to attend to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1980, he moved to New York City, where he is still residing.

Golub’s musical background is rich and diverse. It was in the early ’80s that Golub was hired to back arena rock/hard rock star Billy Squier, (7 LP’s and three world tours) and that association led to a lot of other session work. The list of major rock or R&B artists Golub backed in the ’80s or ’90s (either in the studio or on-stage) includes Tina Turner, John Waite, Vanessa Williams, Ashford & Simpson, Dar Williams, and former J. Geils Band vocalist Peter Wolf. In 1988, Golub was hired to back Rod Stewart, an association that lasted for seven years, four albums and five would tours.

1988 was also the year in which Golub’s first album as a leader, “Unspoken Words”, was released, but at that point, he was still devoting most of his time to backing other artists. It wasn’t until 1994, when Golub founded the band Avenue Blue, that playing as a leader became the guitarist’s main activity. That year Avenue Blue’s self-titled debut album fared well in the smooth jazz/NAC market. Two more Avenue Blue projects were released – “Naked City” in 1996 and “Nightlife” in 1997.

Starting with 1999’s album “Out of the Blue”, Jeff Golub presented himself again as a solo artist – followed by another seven solo albums. The year 2011 has been a roller coaster ride for Golub: in June, he became blind due to collapse of the optic nerve, later the year he released “Three Kings”, a tribute work to the music of Albert, B.B. and Freddie King. His latest album “Train Keeps A Rolling” will be available on August 13, 2013.

In 1986, David Sanborn and Bob James, released their collaborative hit album Double Vision. After 27 years, this dynamic duo of contemporary jazz will finally tour together! Double Vision sold over 1 million copies, won the 1986 Grammy Award for “Best Jazz Fusion Performance,” spent 63 weeks on the Billboard charts and included songs like “Maputo,” “Since I Fell For You,” “Moon Tune,” and “You Don’t Know Me.”

OKeh will release keyboardist-composer-arranger Bob James and alto saxophonist David Sanborn’s new album, Quartette Humaine, on May 21, 2013. The project is the first collaboration between the two musicians since their 1986 Platinum-selling, GRAMMY® Award-winning album, Double Vision. An all-acoustic quartet offering, Quartette Humaine pays tribute to the late iconic pianist-composer Dave Brubeck, putting a prime spotlight on his work that featured alto saxophonist Paul Desmond.

“David and I realized long ago that Double Vision had become more successful than we originally imagined it could be,” James says. “Ironically, although we’ve met in the studio, doing other people’s projects, we’ve never toured, or performed together live as a band. The exception was a midnight jam session at the Tokyo Jazz Festival a few years ago. We played just a couple of tunes, but it engendered the feeling that a reunion was way overdue.”

They are joined by special guest Jeff Golub.
