The youngest of seven grew up in a musical family, performing and singing in church with his older brothers. Anderson’s family recognised his talent as a musical prodigy when he was introduced to the saxophone aged twelve. A son of South Carolina, Anderson studied jazz at North Carolina Central University.

In 2005, Anderson released his debut album “My Turn”, a stellar contemporary jazz record the young musician put his heart and soul into. Filled with romantic ballads and jazz grooves “My Turn” was a sophisticated introduction to what was to come from the up and coming star. At the age of only 24, 2009 saw the release of his sophomore album “From the Heart”.

Anderson’s breakthrough into contemporary jazz circles came in the same year as the winner of the Capital Jazz fest Challenge. Since then, Anderson has had a meteoric rise to success, touring with Prince, Sheila E. and Anthony Hamilton. Anderson has been honoured to open for and join on stage artists such as Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway, Peter White, Boney James, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, George Duke, Wynton Marsalis, Alex Bugnon, Nnenna Freelon, Jeff Lorber, Bob Baldwin and Jennifer Holiday.

In 2011 Anderson won the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Prestige Award for Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year and released his third record, “Now”, a diverse record that reached across R&B, pop and jazz boundaries. Following the success of “Now”, Prince called for Anderson to join his band the New Power Generation, where Anderson is currently performing as star saxman and personality. 2014 is shaping up to be a remarkable time for Marcus Anderson. The accomplished musician will be spending the year on the road both as a solo artist and with Prince and the New Power Generation. With the release of “Style Meets Substance”, Anderson is eager for what is to come.

The idea of The Sax Pack originated in 2004 with saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa after he saw a movie about the “Rat Pack,” a group of legendary entertainers led by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Inspired by their showmanship and camaraderie, Kashiwa came up with the name The Sax Pack and called on some of his saxophone peers and started a new group that would feature the instrument, as well as their collective musical passion for jazz, funk and R&B.

The Sax Pack has released two CDs, “The Sax Pack” (2008) and “The Pack is Back” (2009) on Shanachie Records. In 2012, The Sax Pack features Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole & Marcus Anderson. Along with being cohesive musically, the trio share a unique and comical camaraderie on stage. Backed by a tight rhythm section, the talented trio combine their life-long love of music and their passion for performance, to make an impact on audiences that love music as much as they do.

Committed to sharing the excitement, spontaneity and creative energy that flows between them on stage, The Sax Pack inspires an audience far beyond the duration of a show. The well-known saxophonists are excited to create a show that combines their individual styles and diverse backgrounds for a fresh approach to the music that inspired them all to become musicians: jazz. Highlights of the tour will feature original music written specifically for The Sax Pack , as well as each sax player’s signature hits and the classic funk, R&B and jazz tunes that will get fans out of their seats.
