Wayman Lawrence Tisdale
(June 9, 1964 – May 15, 2009)

First time I attended a Norman Brown concert was at Warren Hill’s Smooth Jazz Cruise 2005. In the opening of his show he acknowledged his roots and showcased his mastership. From Wes Montgomery’s thumb pickin’ jazz over George Benson’s scatting along “This Masquerade” to Jimi Hendrix’ “The Wind Cries Marry” he performed music history in a multifaceted suggestive way.

Brown narrated the audience: “Before I wanted to be Wes Montgomery I wanted to be Jimi Hendrix. One day I came in and my dad was playing Wes Montgomery and my dad said, “Oh sure, you’re into guitar now, come in and hear a real guitarist.” That’s when it all changed for me.”

Norman Brown’s new CD Sending My Love will hit store shelves on Tuesday, June 22. The CD, Brown’s eighth overall, will be released through Concord Music Group. The album features nine originals and one cover, of the Kenny Loggins’ classic “Celebrate Me Home,” which was co-written by pianist/composer Bob James. The album will feature traditional players on a Brown CD with Herman Jackson on keyboards, Teddy Campbell drums, Jubu on rhythm guitar and Kevin Richard percussion. Guest vocalists are Melvin Moore III and Rochella Brown. The CD also features a five-piece horn section on select tracks. Producers on Brown’s latest endeavor are as follows: Herman Jackson, Tha Bizness, Emmery Williams and Lloyd Tolbert. Original song titles include, “Come Go With Me,” “Play Time,” “Special Moments” and my favorite, “Here’s My Number.” This CD is the follow-up to the 2007 Peak Records release, “Stay With Me.”

Norman Brown will promote his new album on his Summer Storm 2010 tour. This tour will feature Brenda Russell and Gail Jhonson, Phil Perry and Jessy J. For the schedule click read more.
