Chris Botti, who was nominated for two Grammy awards, performs for three weeks at the Blue Note in NY. Botti is becoming known for his interpretation of pop jazz on trumpet and for his duets with well-known performers. The Grammy, for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists, was for “What Are You Doing for the Rest of Your Life?” (Botti and Sting: Billy Childs, Gil Goldstein and Heitor Pereira).

That song is on Botti’s CD, “To Love Again,” which features Botti on trumpet in duets with nine vocalists including Sting, Gladys Knight, Michael Buble, Steven Tyler and others.  His other Grammy nomination was for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “In Our Time” (featuring Botti on Burt Bacharach’s “At This Time” album).  A former member of Paul Simon’s band, Botti opened for Sting’s 2004 tour and for Josh Groban in 2005. Since his first solo album came out in 1995, he has been called “a gifted instrumentalist, a talented composer and a charismatic performer.”
