The actual festival is 4 days, the concerts are the last 2 days of the festival. The first evening, Thursday, August 11, is called “Homegrown at the Hipp,” and is a concert featuring local artists at the Hippodrome Theater in Jackson Ward. Sponsor Kickoff Night will take place on Friday, August 12 at CenterStage, featuring the sounds of swing music from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation.
The Richmond Jazz Festival at Maymont concerts will be held August 13-14 at the 100-acre Maymont park and museum in Richmond, Virginia and will feature some of the biggest names in local, national and international jazz.
The two-day, multi-stage event, with Altria Group serving as the presenting sponsor, will feature more than 20 artists representing mostly jazz, as well as other diverse music genres. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Maymont Foundation, the Richmond Jazz Society and Educational Learning Opportunities.
