Keyboardist and composer Jeff Lorber created Jeff Lorber Fusion in the late 1970’s before Contemporary Jazz had a name. The “Fusion” came from blending other genres into jazz hybrid. The band’s first four albums were a group effort, but by 1982 Jeff Lorber Fusion was a solo project. In all Jeff Lorber released 16 solo albums before picking up the “Fusion” again in 2010. The latest release as Jeff Lorber Fusion, Now Is The Time, was nominated for a Grammy as Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

Jeff Lorber has been a part of four Grammy nominations: 1985’s Best R&B Instrumental for his song “Pacific Coast Highway,” 2005’s Best Pop Instrumental Album for Flipside, 2007’s Best Contemporary Jazz Album for He Had a Hat, and most recently in 2010.

Call it Fusion, Contemporary Jazz or Smooth—Lorber will be a great afternoon act for JazzFest. Check the complete line-up of this festival here.
