Grammy Award-winning soulful singer and guitarist George Benson will bring his smooth and popular jazz style back to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on December 20 at 8 p.m. in support of his newest release, Guitar Man.

George Benson is a captivating musician and performer who has been honored with 10 Grammy Awards. An expert improviser and vibrant entertainer, Benson’s sly, seductive rhythm and blues style has earned him an impeccable reputation as one of music’s most enterprising and engaging stars.

Forty years ago, when Benson was a fledgling guitarist working the corner pubs of his native Pittsburgh, he was discovered by jazz veteran Wes Montgomery who urged the young guitarist forward. In the early 1960s, Benson apprenticed with organist Brother Jack McDuff and kicked his career into gear at the age of 21 with The New Boss Guitar featuring the revered organist.

Since then, he has released over 61 albums working alongside music legends such as Lonnie Smith, Ronnie Cuber, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Chet Atkins and more. Benson’s recognizable voice and tempo has yielded the top pop hits “On Broadway,” “Give Me the Night,” “Turn Your Love Around” “Lady Love Me (One More Time),” “In Your Eyes,” “Livin’ Inside Your Love,” “Masquerade” and countless others. He also recorded the original version of “Greatest Love of All” for the 1977 Muhammad Ali bio-pic, The Greatest (which was later recorded successfully as a cover by Whitney Houston).

Some of his more notable offerings of the past decade include the sexy and soulful Irreplaceable (2004), and Givin’ It Up (2006), a duet recording with Al Jarreau that scored two Grammy Awards and marked his Concord debut. Songs and Stories followed in 2009, with the help of some high-profile guest musicians: guitarists Lee Ritenour, Steve Lukather and Norman Brown; vocalists Lalah Hathaway and Patti Austin; keyboardist David Paich; bassist and co-producer Marcus Miller and several others.

Benson’s latest release, Guitar Man, is a 12-song collection that includes a mix of jazz and pop standards united by Benson’s soulful and exploratory signature sound. Tracks include new takes on Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour,” solo guitar entries “Danny Boy” and “Tenderly,” a playful reading of “Paper Moon” and a rollicking version of the Champs’ 1958 instrumental pop classic, “Tequila.”
