For the first time, it will be a spring event instead of a fall event, but the 8th annual Jazz on the Green concert will still offer the same wonderful music under the stars.

This year’s Jazz on the Green will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Grissom Gazebo on the Campus Green and will heaadline Kathy Kosins, an award-winning vocalist from Detroit, Mich., who has won the hearts of critics and fans around the world with her eclectic musical tastes that expand the rich history of jazz.

Admission is $7 per person with all students (K-college) and members of the Martin Methodist College Alumni Association admitted free of charge. The audience is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets. (In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Martin Hall Auditorium.)

She has released several albums, including “Vintage” (2006), “Mood Swings” (2002) and “All in a Dream’s Work” (1996), all to high praise by jazz reviewers. In 2010, she tried a different approach by releasing singles quarterly under the new Mahogany Digital label, including “You Fascinate Me,” “Don’t Be On the Outside,” “Spring Is Where You Are” and “You’d Better Love Me.”

Also featured artist on this event is guitarist Steve Oliver.
