Eric Darius live @ Smooth Jazz Festival Augsburg 2012 Saxophone | Friday, September 14, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Every now and then an artist bursts onto the scene, changing the rules and challenging the status quo. Eric Darius is one of those artists fearlessly pushing all musical boundaries. He’s one of the most exciting musicians to enter the contemporary jazz scene in the last decade. His explosive arrival as a recording artist at the age of 17 caused a frenzy. Not surprising as the ambitious musician eventually shared the stage with big names such as Prince, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson and Brian McKnight. Fast-forward to a #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz hit and several more top ten’s, and the votes are in – Eric Darius continues to be a force that is unequaled in today’s new musical landscape.

The Tampa, Florida-based urban instrumentalist, producer and composer further solidifies his place as one of contemporary music’s brightest stars with his latest album “On a Mission”. Eric Darius’ Haitian/Jamaican roots run deep, bringing his passion and resolve into clear focus. Highlights include his profoundly personal and emotion-filled “My Prayer for Haiti” and inspiring tracks like the sun-drenched Reggae number “Back to My Roots” and the electrifying dance mix, “Let’s Go”. The new project features Darius’ stunning chops with an introspective take on Herbie Hancock’s classic “Butterfly”, joined by trumpet veteran, Rick Braun.

“Contemporary jazz is the genre that has fueled my early success, but I’m ON A MISSION to celebrate every style of music from Jazz, R&B, Pop and Reggae to Hip-Hop, Rock and Gospel. I want my music to be a vehicle for change, transcending all boundaries regardless of age or race. I believe my music can make a difference in the world,” says Darius with his warm, trademark smile.

Keiko Matsui is a citizen of the world. She tours relentlessly and has brought her music to virtually every corner of the globe. Her music transcends boundary and her unique melting pot of musical influences have garnered her an international following. “Music has no borders and it creates an oneness among people,” confides the Japanese born pianist, composer and producer. An activist by nature, Keiko has not only used her music to speak to the world but she has lent her voice to causes championed by organizations like The United Nations World Food Programme. With over 1.5 million albums sold and scores of sold out concerts across the globe, Keiko Matsui is one of the brightest stars in instrumental music. Her free spirit and creative genius have afforded her the luxury to share the stage with everyone from Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis to Hugh Masakela and Bob James.

Keiko Matsui made her US recording debut in 1987 with the recording “A Drop of Water”. Her album “Dream Walk” (1996) remained on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts for over 15 months and further cemented her reputation as a force to reckon with. In 1997, she launched a tour dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, and released a four-song CD entitled “A Gift of Hope” that benefitted the Y-Me Breast Cancer Organization. In 2000 and 2001, Keiko was honored with an award for “Best Female Artist” at the National Smooth Jazz Awards. Keiko Matsui’s CD “Deep Blue” (2001) topped Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz charts for three consecutive weeks. Keiko is the first Japanese artist to achieve this honor. On January 2011 Keiko’s long awaited, self produced and 22nd album “The Road…” was released, followed by “Altair & Vega” (2011) – a 4 Hand Piano project with Bob James.
