Born and raised in Philadelphia, Gail’s fascination for the piano began at the young age of 10. By 14, Gail had played her first professional gig. After she had graduated from the Berklee College of Music, with a B.A. in Composition, Gail made the move west, to Los Angeles and established herself in the vibrant heart of the music industry. Her resume as a recording artist and touring musician includes appearances with such notables as Mindi Abair, Bobby Womack, Ray Parker jr, Pink and Milli Vanilli. She has also appeared on TV and performed on Jazz Festivals with Cindy Bradley, Jeff Lorber, Patti Austin, Marion Meadows and many others. Beyond that, she has been music director for Norman Brown for many years. In 2010 and 2011 The American Black Music Association awarded Gail a Spotlight Award as “Best Jazz Musician.” Gail leads the all female ensemble “Jazz in P!nk”, featuring artists as Karen Briggs, Althea Rene and Mariea Antoinette, but she also has her own band “3 Piece Suit”. Her music is built on a foundation of straight-ahead jazz, R&B, Funk and Gospel.

Since its inception in 2012, the Gallery Suite Jazz Series has been host to thirty four consecutive sold out showcases featuring a celebrated list of regional, national and international artists. Now in its forth season, the series continues its tradition of offering some of the best entertainment in downtown Lansing performed by notable artists in various styles of the jazz idiom.

The Gallery Suite Jazz Series is hosted by International recording artist and saxophonist Phil Denny and takes place in downtown Lansing’s most unique and intimate artist-owned studio spaces. This hip, urban, raw venue with open wood ceilings, hardwood floors and exposed brick walls creates the ideal backdrop for you and your guests to experience a night of lively entertainment with an emphasis on diversion though pure musical artistry. With a limited seating capacity, those present will feel as though the music is being performed just for them.

This month’s featured artist is Trippin N’ Rhythm records recording artist and flutist Althea Rene. Althea travels from the big state of TX to share her soul-jazz music infused with impressive rhythmic improvisation. A notable accomplishment to mention is her hit single “In The Flow’ was the first flute-featured single in the history of the Billboard Chart to reach the number one spot and some regard her as a “master of her craft” and one of the world’s most exciting solo improvisational flutists.

Idlewild MF

Once again, the Idlewild Music Festival will host regional, national and international performing music artists during the Festival’s weekend of events. This year’s Festival Executive Producer is Theresa Randleman, Founder and CEO of T. ROSE Entertainment, Inc. The Festival is held to commemorate and celebrate the history of well known African-American entertainers and professionals who owned property and performed at the Historic Resort prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Known as the “Black Eden”, this location was one of the few resorts in the United States where African-Americans could vacation and purchase property. The National Resource Team applauds the Idlewild community for holding on to the land; approximately 3,000 acres. It is historically, the largest land based African American resort ever assembled in the USA. Idlewild is a rare and valuable national resource with physical and cultural significance.

The weekend of entertainment will bring Jazz, Blues, Soul and Gospel to Idlewild, Michigan; from youth talent to legendary music icons. The Saturday night headline artist is Zapp Band; and the Sunday morning Gospel Celebration will include the Multi-Stellar Award Winning Bishop Rance Allen and the Rance Allen Group.

Save the dates and plan to join the dynamic hosts from Detroit radio; Mason and Coco!!! They will Honor the Past, while Standing in the Present, Looking towards the future. Visit the Idlewild Music Festival website for more information, artists lineup, weekend ends and more!

Saxophonist, composer, producer, and vocalist Eric Darius is one of those artists fearlessly pushing all musical boundaries from Jazz, R&B, Pop and Reggae to Hip-Hop, Rock and Gospel, creating a very distinctive, fresh sound and approach that is uniquely his own. Hailing from a musical family with rich traditions in Caribbean music (his father is from Haiti and his mother is from Jamaica), Eric realized his calling for music at an early age. He was “blown away by the soul and emotion” of a saxophone being played at his church when he was only nine years old. By age eleven – after only playing for one year – Eric was chosen to be in Sonny LaRosa’s and America’s Youngest Jazz Band. The group toured the country and even played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. His explosive arrival as a recording artist at the age of 17 caused a frenzy worldwide. Since then, he has released six solo-albums – including a #1 hit single and Seven Top 10 radio hits on Nielsen’s R&R/Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts – and has shared the stage with world renown, Grammy Award-winning artists, such as Prince, Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige, Carlos Santana and George Benson, just to name a few.
