Since its inception in 1979, Cabo Frio has become one of the nation’s premier jazz groups; and a cultural institution in Rochester NY. Emerging from the musically fertile Upstate New York region home to a host of other acclaimed musicians like Cab Calloway, Chuck Mangione, and Steve Gadd–Cabo Frio’s humble beginnings date back to 1979 when its members from the Rochester-Buffalo area joined profound musical forces. Cabo Frio’s recording career began in 1982 with the release of its self-titled album; at that time the band was at the forefront of the genre of music called – fusion.
Cabo Frio is celebrating 37 years of the recording. The group has been the support act for Pieces of a Dream, Jeff Lorber, Spyro Gyra, The Yellow Jackets, Dave Valentine, Paquito D’Rivera, Joe sample and the late great Phyllis Hyman. Additionally, Cabo Frio has provided powerful performances at countless jazz festivals across the nation.
