Inspired keyboardist, composer, prolific studio musician, and producer, Brian Simpson is a master of all he purveys. His eloquent approach to playing, sophisticated harmonics sense, bluesy overtones, R&B flavor and his keen sense of how to craft a song that stands the test of time have made him the go-to man for many. Through the years, Simpson has been revered for his unparalleled ability to compose unforgettable melodies and irresistible grooves. Simpson’s soulful approach to music has made him the first call for many including Janet Jackson, Teena Marie, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, and Dave Koz. A chart-topping musical chameleon who wrote the #1 R&B hit “The First Time” for Surface in the 1990s, Brian Simpson has a knack for churning out timeless anthems.

Simpson’s approach is simple, “I’m following in the footsteps of those that laid the foundation of contemporary jazz music. The fusing of jazz and R&B is just what contemporary jazz is all about.”

After graduating from Northern Illinois University, Simpson relocated to Los Angeles where he quickly immersed himself in the local jazz scene. Late-night jazz sessions found him playing alongside everyone from saxophonists Everette Harp and Boney James to guitarist Norman Brown. The free-spirited musician soon found himself taking a temporary leave of absence from the jazz scene, touring the world with pop divas Teena Marie, Sheena Easton, and Janet Jackson.

Placing his success in pop aside, Brian Simpson has always been a working jazz musician. He has toured with some of the greats of recent jazz history, including George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Larry Carlton, Billy Cobham, and Gerald Albright. Brian had been the musical director for jazz saxophonist Dave Koz for close to 20 years and for a decade the Musical Director of the ambitious and highly popular “The Smooth Jazz Cruise.”

Blue Pyramid Productions is proud to have Brian Simpson at The Attucks Theatre in celebration of the 5th season of the Church Street Jazz Series.

Since being signed to the Trippin’ N’ Rhythm record label in 2009, Cindy Bradley has blossomed into a powerful and charismatic presence on the contemporary jazz festival circuit, earning seven number one Billboard singles along the way. Cindy has performed everywhere from the Seabreeze Jazz Festival to Dubai Jazz Fest. She won Best New Artist at the American Smooth Jazz Awards, Brass Player of the Year and Best New Artist at the Contemporary Jazz Awards, and named Debut Artist of the Year by the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival and Smooth Jazz News.

A native of Buffalo, New York, Bradley loves telling the story of how she became a trumpet player by accident in fourth grade: “I started playing the piano when I was six, but we had to choose a different instrument to be part of the band program. I forgot to bring my permission slip to class, so the teacher just had me randomly circle an instrument that I wanted to play. I picked the trumpet, which turned out to be a life and career defining fluke.”

After earning a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies and music education from Ithaca College, Bradley went to the New England Conservatory to pursue her master’s in jazz trumpet performance; at the conservatory, she studied with and was influenced by many jazz greats including John McNeil, Bob Brookmeyer, Jerry Bergonzi, George Russell and Steve Lacy.

Post-graduation, Bradley immersed herself in the vibrant NYC jazz scene, discovering equal passions for straight ahead be-bop and contemporary jazz, as well as funk, Top 40, R&B and jazz fusion.

Bradley has performed for thousands of jazz lovers over the years, playing such renowned events as the Big Bear Lake Jazz Festival, Omaha’s Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival, the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival in San Antonio and the Seabreeze Jazz Festival.

Blue Pyramid Productions is proud to have trumpeter Cindy Bradley headlining the 4th performance in the 4th season of the Church Street Jazz Series at The Attucks Theatre in Downtown Norfolk.
