8 PM – Al Jarreau w/Marc Antoine & Steve Cole

Al Jarreau was born in Milwaukee, WI, the fifth of six children, Al grew up with Mom playing the piano and Dad singing. Harmonizing with his siblings was only the beginning for this legendary performer. His unique vocal style is one of the world’s greatest, earning 7 Grammy Awards and scores of international awards. On March 6, 2001 he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With a career spanning 40 years, he remains one of the hardest working men in show business; and is currently working on a new album. His presence on stage is not to be missed!

A Paris, France native, Marc Antoine’s parents bought him a guitar as a child; it has never left his side. Even when an accident threatened his career in 1981, his instrument gave him the inspiration to recover and become the musician he is today. The legendary George Benson honored Marc with the compliment of being “one of his favorite guitarists.” Come and see why! Steve Cole followed in his father’s footsteps, and trained classically on clarinet, only to switch to sax in high school. It became his passion. After graduating college, Steve started playing for TV commercials, radio and finally went out on his own. In 2001 he hit the charts on the jazz classic “Just the Two of Us” with Bill Withers and Grover Washington.

SaxPack

The Sax Pack 10th Anniversary Tour featuring Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole and Kim Waters.

The idea of The Sax Pack originated in 2004 with saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa after he saw a movie about the “Rat Pack,” a group of legendary entertainers led by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Inspired by their showmanship and camaraderie, Kashiwa came up with the name The Sax Pack and called on some of his saxophone peers and started a new group that would feature the instrument, as well as their collective musical passion for jazz, funk and R&B.

The Sax Pack has released two CDs, “The Sax Pack” (2008) and “The Pack is Back” (2009) on Shanachie Records.

The Sax Pack features Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole & Kim Waters. Along with being cohesive musically, the trio share a unique and comical camaraderie on stage.

Backed by a tight rhythm section, the talented trio combine their life-long love of music and their passion for performance, to make an impact on audiences that love music as much as they do.

Committed to sharing the excitement, spontaneity and creative energy that flows between them on stage, The Sax Pack inspires an audience far beyond the duration of a show.

The well-known saxophonists are excited to create a show that combines their individual styles and diverse backgrounds for a fresh approach to the music that inspired them all to become musicians: jazz.

With his CD release ‘Silver Soul’ saxophone superstar Kim Waters celebrated his 25th year as a recording artist last year. Silver Soul is Kim’s 20 solo album and features amongst others his wife, vocalist Dana Pope, and his daughter Kayla on keyboards. His latest release follows 16 Top 10 and 14 #1 singles, 4 #1 CDs and many millions of album unit sales. A Baltimore native from a musical family, Kim’s primary influences were jazz icons like Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, and Cannonball Adderley. His first instrument – at age 8 – was the violin (‘That didn’t go over well with the fellas’, says Waters) and within five years he found his true calling on the alto and soprano saxophones. Soon after, Kim organized his first professional band with his brothers, James and Eric, and his hometown friend Cyrus Chestnut. Subsequently, Waters shared stages with many of the best including Ray Charles, Al Green, Phyllis Hyman and Grover Washington, Jr. to name a very few. Kim now makes his home in the Austin, Texas area and, when he’s frequently on the road, at the important music venues throughout the world. His music is characterized by distinctive, soul-imbued melodies and seductive grooves.
