Soul-Jazz Gentleman

The Soul-Jazz Gentleman, a group of four talented and debonair artists, were formed as a result of recognizing the need for a new crop of entertainers in the smooth jazz genre. Eager to share their respective music to listeners, as well as collaborate together in a live show setting, saxophonist Phil Denny (MI), trumpeter Lin Rountree (MI), keyboardist Nathan Mitchell (FL) and guitarist Max Valldeneu (IL) seek to bring a fresh and polished production to the stage that is marketable and entertaining. The combined resume of these gentleman is quite impressive and the result of their collaboration is likely to gain immediate attention to their music and purpose.

In their Midwest debut, the Soul-Jazz Gentleman strike Lansing, MI first, followed by Detroit, MI and conclude with a weekend wrap up in Chicago, IL. Each show will be as unique as the environment in which they perform.

Listeners can expect an entertaining night of original music paired with a few notable cover songs that will have you sway back in your seat as well as make you want to groove on the floor. It’s always exciting when powerhouse talents like Philly native Gail Jhonson break through the boys club of urban-oriented smooth jazz and give the guys a run for their money.
Gail is the Music Director for one of the genre’s most popular artists, ( Norman Brown ). Now with the spectacular performances from the all-star super group Jazz in Pink, things are getting hot for Ms. Jhonson! Sure, it’s easy to take her dazzling keyboard magic for granted when she’s playing behind vocal superstars like Peabo Bryson and Patti Austin and instrumental greats like Paul Taylor and Jeff Lorber—not to mention Norman. But it’s clear to anyone who has listened to her diverse playing that Jhonson has been a solo star ready to emerge for a long time.

Max Valldeneu, It’s About Love
Considering the many years of success Argentine born electric guitarist Max Valldeneu has had playing blues and R&B everywhere from his adopted home base of Chicago to Europe and Japan, it’s not surprising that he brings the perfect mix of buoyant funk and gritty down home fire to his infectious, in the pocket and airplay ready urban jazz debut It’s About Love. Like his more renowned (at least thus far!) stylistic genre counterparts, Nick Colionne and Grammy winner Norman Brown, Valldeneu has high energy improvisational chops to spare, yet grounds his vibe perfectly in the two elements which guarantee that listeners won’t want to let go: groove and melody. It’s About Love – but it’s so much more: the best indie instrumental recording of 2013 by far.
–Jonathan Widran, Jazziz Magazine

Max just came back from a very successful California tour, where he played at San Diego Jazz Festival, the famous jazz club Spaghettini, and other prestigious venues.
