The Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society announced today they have rescheduled their annual festival that was interrupted by inclement weather last fall. Moody Gardens at Galveston Island will be the host venue for the 2014 Red Cat Jazz Festival, May 2nd – 4th.

The Red Cat Jazz festival makes its highly anticipated comeback to the island bigger than ever. “Our previous plan was to pay homage to Houston jazz legend Ronnie Laws, whose 50-year career has taken him around the world and back home to Texas. Laws will once again join the line-up consisting of the Tom Browne, Marion Meadows, Jazz in Pink, Miki Howard. “This will be the most spectacular show that we have done to date, Frankie Beverly and Maze will headline this year’s event,” said festival organizer Sam Pink, founder of the Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society and owner of the Red Cat Jazz Cafe at 711 Franklin St. in downtown Houston.

Confirmed artists are as follows:

Friday’s lineup features one of HJF’s most beloved artists – Gladys Knight. Appearing with Gladys will be Bubba Knight, Gladys’ brother and one time member of “The Pips.” Making a rare appearance as a solo artist will be Keith Sweat. Also appearing will be festival favorites Dave Koz and Jonathan Butler together again with special guest Sheila E. Their brand of smooth jazz has always delighted HJF fans. Festival “newcomer” Melanie Fiona will also be appearing, whose hit single “It Kills Me” was billboard’s number one R&B song for 5 consecutive weeks.

Saturday’s show features one of R&B’s greatest live performers – Charlie Wilson. His hit single “There Goes My Baby” was Billboard’s number-one hit for 20 weeks. Also appearing is Teena Marie who started her career with R&B legend Rick James. The ladies are sure to love festival first timer Joe, whose R&B ballads will set many hearts aflutter. Rounding out the Saturday show is the jazz group Down to the Bone.

Sunday’s show heralds the return of all time Festival favorite – Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. If you can’t get a groove on with Frankie then you don’t have a groove. Back together and making their HJF debut is En Vogue, one of the biggest female performing groups of all time. Smooth Jazz takes over as Gerald Albright and Kirk Whalum pay tribute to Stax Record Company. Rounding out the Sunday show is Hampton’s own – The Fuzz Band.
