With the sold out success of it’s inaugural year, the Pacific Rim Jazz Festival continues it’s tradition of bringing in world class entertainment to Hawaii as well as continuing to support the local community through it’s charitable contributions. With it’s goal of bringing in diverse talents from Pacific Rim nations the festival hopes to continue it’s reach and popularity to the international community as well as the USA.

It is also the intent of the festival to highlight and feature many of Hawaii’s own talented artists and musicians and in the process allowing them the opportunity to share the stage with world class artists. We are proud to announce our new and bigger venue, The Hawaii Convention Center Ballroom. We hope to substantially grow our audience and increase accessibility to Hawaii’s tourist center in Waikiki.

Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons
After 25 years and 18 studio recordings this Grammy nominated powerhouse band continues to break new ground. The most requested band to appear by Hawaii fans they are finally back in the islands . They will be debuting songs from their brand new release Cote D’azur

Deniece Williams
With 4 Grammy Awards won and 9 Grammy nominations over her career “Niecy” is part of R&B and Gospel music history. Her 4 octave range continues to astound audiences world wide. Her No.1 hit songs include Too Much Too Little to Late, Let’s Hear it for the Boys and Gonna Take a Miracle.

Rick Braun
He has lent his talents to some of Pop music’s greatest artists such as Sade, Rod Stewart and War . His versatility as a trumpet player is unmatched and his success as a solo artist has brought him all over the world. This will be his second appearance at the festival and is always a crowd favorite.

Michael Paulo
Festival Producer Michael Paulo is also a well respected and internationally renowned saxophonist and is a local home grown talent. Through his efforts jazz fans in Hawaii have been able to enjoy world class jazz artists in Hawaii.

Brian Simpson
As Music Director for Dave Koz, Brian has performed for every smooth jazz artist you can think of. His expertise in organizing musicians and talent lends itself well to our event . Brian has also had number one hits songs as a solo artist and is the most sought after pianist in Smooth Jazz

Kaori Kobayashi
Voted “The most beautiful saxophonist in Asia” ,her youtube video”Nothing is Gonna Change My Love for You “ has garnered over 5 million u tube views. Her popularity in Asia has brought her to perform from Korea to Thailand and China. This is her debut performance in the United States and the festival’s first international artist !

Lani Misalucha
Born in the Philippines into a musical family, her father was an operatic tenor and her mother was a coloratura soprano. Lani is the first Asian to headline a main showroom in Las Vegas strip. Dubbed as “Asia’s Nightingale” and “New Siren of the Strip” in 2004 in Las Vegas, she has won many awards: Best Solo Performer (Tinig Awards), Best Major Concert (Aliw) Awards, Entertainer of the Year (Aliw Awards), Best Femaile Recording Performer (Awit Awards), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (Katha Music Awards), Best Ballad Recording (Awit Awards). She just finished her show “Lani in Waikiki: Return to Paradise” sponsored by Roberts Hawaii and produced by Roy Tokujo.

Rene Paulo
Pianist Rene Paulo who is commonly known as Hawaii’s “King of the Keyboard“ is one of the most respected musicians of his generation. Breaking down barriers, he was one of the first ever musicians from Hawaii to be accepted into the prestigious Julliard School of Music. Since then, Rene has warmed the hearts of people all over the world with his unique style of piano playing and showmanship. He will make a special guest appearance at this years festival.

Deshannon Higa
DeShannon is a renowned jazz trumpet player in Hawaii and New York City with over 20 years of professional experience.
He has performed around the world: Birdland, Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. As a trumpet player, composer and arranger, he has worked with many famous musicians like Burt Bacharach, Joe Williams, Diana Krall, Al Jarreau, and Tower of Power among many others.

Starr Kalahiki
Winner of two Na Hoku Hanohano awards: Most Promising Artist and Best Jazz Album, Starr Kalahiki has been singing for as long as she can remember. From singing opera (Hawaii Opera Theater chorus), musical (Diamond Head Theater’s Cinderella), stage production (Ulalena on Maui), fronting modern alternative rock band “Missing Dave”, being a member of funk ban”Toyz of Pleasure” and R&B group “Eight-O-Eight”. She was also a jazz headliner on the Star of Honolulu and performed as a background vocalist on the “Lani Misalucha Show, Return to Paradise”.

Jeremy Cheng
Jeremy Cheng performs every Monday at Rumfire bar and grill at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. He sings acoustic contemporary Hawaiian, Soul and R&B. This young, talented, and charismatic singer covers music from Kalapana and celcilio and Kapono to high energy R&B songs to funk.

Special Guest MC Al Waterson
Al Waterson is a professional Singer, Emcee, Actor and Recording Artist. Throughout Al’s extensive background in music, he has performed with bands, orchestras, duos, trios and pianists in most nightclubs, country clubs and showrooms in Hawaii, as well as numerous locations on the mainland.

Fans that have followed Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons for any stretch of time over the past quarter century know the versatile award winning and Grammy nominated guitarist/composer, and producer has long had a penchant for naming songs and albums after exotic places (Aruba, Kenya, Morocco, Weekend in Monaco, Sahara, etc).

In recent years, Freeman has noticed that The Rippingtons’ fan base has increased exponentially, as the group’s longtime admirers transfer their passion for the music to their children. Several Rippingtons albums have been inspired by Freeman’s travels, and collectively, they have formed the life soundtrack for hundreds of thousands of contemporary jazz fans worldwide for a quarter century.

The Rippingtons, featuring Russ Freeman, are the first performers announced for the Oasis Contemporary Jazz Awards show set for March 12, 2011 in San Diego, CA. The Rippingtons will be celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2011. Founder Russ Freeman, Jeff Kashiwa, Bill Heller, Dave Karasony and Rico Belled make up the current Rippingtons roster. Over the years, the Rippingtons have included David Benoit, Gregg Karukas, Dave Koz, Eric Marienthal, Kenny G and others.

The Saturday night Oasis Contemporary Jazz Awards show is the highlight of a four-day weekend (March 10-13) which will include concerts, a reception with the artists and attendees, celebrity golf and poker tournaments, clinics, autograph sessions, a champagne brunch on Sunday and more.

The three previous Oasis Awards shows were all-star concerts with The Rippingtons, Rick Braun, Jeff Lorber, Richard Elliot, Peter White, Boney James, Kirk Whalum, Herb Alpert, Dave Koz, Al Jarreau, Bob James, Keiko Matsui, Brenda Russell, David Benoit, Euge Groove, Brian Culbertson, Marc Antoine, Steve Cole, Keiko Matsui, the late Wayman Tisdale, and more, all performing.

“The Rippingtons played the very first Oasis Awards show at Bass Hall in Ft Worth, Texas ten years ago and with 2011 being The Ripps’ 25th year, it seems only fitting we announce them first”, said Oasis Awards co-producer Bill Paddock.
